Gerald Silas Lovro was born May 18, 1931 to Even and Laura (Friestad) Lovro on the family farm in rural Hendricks. He was baptized and confirmed at Singsaas Lutheran Church. He attended country school and graduated from Hendricks High School. Following graduation, Gerald farmed and worked at various construction jobs and at Hendricks Lumber and Veire Oil. After retirement he worked full-time spring and fall at the Farmers Elevator. He was a member of the Hendricks Fire Department for 25-plus years. He was also a Superintendent of Singsaas Sunday School for many years.
He was united in marriage to Joan Aune on Dec. 30, 1962 at Calvary Church in Hendricks. To this union they were blessed with a daughter, Rebecca.
Gerald was proud of his strong Norwegian heritage and spoke fluent Norwegian up until the end. He looked forward to visiting with the Norwegians when they came to Hendricks to visit. There was not a holiday meal that went by that Gerald didn’t speak the table prayer in Norwegian.
Throughout Gerald’s life he was there to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. His memory of the past was quite good. If an individual needed to remember an event, date or person he would be able to tell you. Gerald enjoyed visiting with others; his best pastime was joking and laughing with those around him.
Gerald took great pride knowing he had built his home for his family. He was proud of his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with them playing games, making numerous phone calls a day, and going to his grandchildren’s events.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan; daughter Rebecca (Duane) Behnke of Canby; grandchildren Gavin, Rylan, Keigan, Danica and Shelby; brother Eldon Lovro of Hendricks; sister-in-law Carol Lovro of Brookings, South Dakota; brother-in-law Paul (Penny) Aune of Glawgow, Montana; sisters-in-law Deloris Olson of Hendricks and Elizabeth Klosterman of Madison South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister Judith; brother Earl; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from both sides of the family.
