Val Downing, Hendricks’ post mistress, provided an interesting picture of her great-grandfather, who at one time worked as a restaurateur at the T. Halvorson Hotel in Hendricks.

At one time, Hendricks had four hotels.
The first hotel to be erected on the townsite of Hendricks was built by Mr. Bigham from Lake Benton and Mr. Hinkel. It was lo­cated in the middle of Main Street, as no buildings were permitted on the lots until sold by the railroad company. The building, which was hast­ily constructed, was later moved to a lot on Lincoln Street.
