William “Bill” Dean Man­gels, age 61, died Monday, May 28 at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Celebration of Life was 3 p.m. Saturday, June 2 at George Boom Funeral Home and Crematory in Sioux Falls, with visitation following the service until 5 p.m. Bill was buried in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
William Mangels was born April 23, 1957 in St. Paul to Marvin and Eleanor “Ellie” (Chapin) Mangels. Bill was baptized at Zion Lu­theran Church in Hidewood Township of Deuel County in South Dakota.
Bill was raised in Hen­dricks, where he graduated with honors from Hendricks High School in 1975. He at­tended the University of Minnesota and lived in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, working various jobs over the years. He later moved to Brookings, South Dakota then Sioux Falls, South Da­kota, working various jobs until his health failed. He lived in Helping Hands Care facility in Brandon, South Dakota for a few years be­fore moving to Salem Nurs­ing Home in Salem, South Dakota. Bill died at Ava House Hospice in Sioux Falls on Monday, May 28, surrounded by family.
Bill had a deep love for cats and had many cats over the years. He enjoyed watch­ing the Minnesota Vikings and Twins and enjoyed the challenge of a chess game. Bill will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Bill is survived by his mother Eleanor Mangels of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; siblings Debora Bolton of Sioux Falls and Diane (Mike) Traen of Fargo, North Da­kota; nieces and nephews Renae (Hugh) Stoudt of Avon, Indiana, Christina Traen of Memphis, Ten­nessee, Jeremy Traen and Gabrielle Traen-Pines of Fargo, North Dakota; great-niece and great-nephews Olivia, Gabriel and Adian Stoudt; aunts Deloris Jens­en of Golden Valley and El­sie Chapin of Bruce, South Dakota; and cousins Geor­giann, R.C., Arnold, Carroll, David and Dale.
He was preceded in death by his father Marvin Man­gels, brother Richard Man­gels, his grandparents and two uncles.
