Donald Kamstra
Donald Vernon Kamstra of Mesa, Arizona was born May 26, 1934 in Brookings, South Dakota and died July 13 at the age of 84. He was the oldest of three children born to John and Violet (Stegner) Kamstra.
When he was two years old the family moved to Hendricks, and there he grew up on a farm. He graduated from Hendricks High School in 1952 and, shortly afterward, enlisted and served two years in the U.S. Army.
Don married Arlys Christianson and he farmed a few seasons before moving to Seattle, Washington, where he worked for the Boeing company for 33 years as a Numerical Control Programmer.
After retiring in 1990, he spent winters in Arizona and summers in Washington or traveling with Arlys in their RV. They visited almost every state and province.
He courageously fought many medical issues over the last 30 years, but kept his spirits up. Don loved his family, woodworking and traveling. He was always busy fixing things and keeping their home and vehicles in good condition.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, he is survived by his daughter Cindy (Bruce) Clark of Lacey, Washington; grandson Austin Clark of Sacramento, California; and sisters Ginny Sagmoe of Hendricks and Sharon Thompson of Alexandria.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, 2-4 p.m. at the HendricksSeniorCenter. Memorials may be made to Hendricks Community Club, PO Box 86, or Hendricks Community Foundation, PO Box 73, Hendricks, Minnesota56136, or your favorite charity.
