Arlene Martha Ione Knutson was born June 3, 1924 to John and Ida (Nelson) Hogie in Astoria, South Dakota. She was raised on a farm near Astoria, where she received her education.
Arlene was united in marriage to Donald Knutson on June 21, 1947 at First Lutheran Church in Hendricks. The couple lived in Hendricks, where they raised their family. Later, Arlene began working as a TMA (trained medical aide) at the Hendricks Hospital and Nursing Home, retiring in 2008. Arlene passed away Sept. 29 at the Hendricks Nursing Home at the age of 94.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where she served in the church circle; she was also a member of the Hendricks Legion Auxiliary. Arlene enjoyed baking, her family, yardwork, flowers, and as a young girl, riding her horse, Red. She gave unconditional love, was a woman of integrity, and will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Arlene is lovingly remembered by her three daughters—Linda Bervig of Delano; Joan (Terry) Tommeraasen of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, and Patty (Greg) Floto of Casa Grande, Arizona; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister Eloyce (Caro) Haigh of Blaine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Knutson, her parents, and her brothers Ellsworth, Clayton and Morrell Hogie.
Blessed be her memory.
