Dean Hansen, age 83 of Canby, passed away Thursday, Jan. 03 at San­ford Canby Medical Cen­ter. Funeral service was 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Canby, with Rev. Levi Bollerud of­ficiating. Burial was in Ss. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery in Taunton. Visitation was 2-4 p.m. with a prayer service at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6 at Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby, and resumed Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dean Allen Hansen was born Oct. 21, 1935 to Newton and Marga­ret (DeBates) Hansen in Pipestone County. His family lived in various communities in south­west Minnesota. Dean graduated from Minneota High School in 1954. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Downing, on Oct. 18, 1955.
The couple farmed south of Canby, where they raised their six chil­dren. In 2003 they sold the farm and moved to Hendricks, where they enjoyed retirement for the next 11 years. In 2014 they moved back to Can­by. Dean entered Sanford Canby Medical Center on Dec. 16, 2018, where he passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, at the age of 83 years, two months and 14 days.
He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Dean loved to fish and hunt with his broth­ers, sons and grandsons. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He loved spending time outside sitting in the sun, listen­ing to the birds, visiting with his kids and teasing the grandkids.
Grateful for having shared his life is his wife Margaret Hansen of Can­by; six children—Alan (Sandy) Hansen of Canby, Loretta (Roger) Eischens of Canby, Sharon (Brad) Fox of St. Leo, Randy (Sandi) Hansen of Madi­son, Ron (Janelle) Hans­en of Little Falls, and Rick (Beth) Hansen of Canby; 17 grandchildren—Sara (Tony) Abrahamson, Ryan (Alicia) Hansen, Daren (Zhenya) Hansen, Tonia (Roger) Ridler, Eric Eischens, Lisa (Scott) Voss, Gina (Kyle) Sheik, Justin Fox, Jessica Fox, Tierra Hansen, Tabitha Hansen, Tony (Ashley) Hansen, Charlie (Anna) Hansen, Holly (fiance’ Joe Tetzlaff) Hansen, Reid Hansen, Alise Hansen and Grace Hansen; 18 great-grandchildren—Max, Jack, Will, Luke, Zachary, Claire, Abbygail, Megan, Brady, Hunter, Laila, Syd­ney, Ella, Nolan, Leo, Ben, Bree and Abby; five sib­lings—Bob (Evelyn) Han­sen of Echo, Jim (Marlys) Hansen of Bemidji, Jerry (Rose) Hansen of Alex­andria, Larry (Gail) Han­sen of Backus, and Judy Peterson of Olathe, Kan­sas; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Newton and Margaret; grandson Kyle Hansen; two sisters, Betty (How­ard) Geihl and Beverly (Erling) Komplien; and brothers-in-law Wayne Peterson and Frances Downing.
