Harvey Koopman, age 84 of Hendricks, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018 at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral service was 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at Beth­any-Elim Lutheran Church in Ivanhoe. Visitation was 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3 at Bethany-Elim Lutheran Church. Visitation re­sumed one hour prior to the service at the church.Burial with military hon­ors was at West Elim Lu­theran Cemetery, Ivanhoe. Houseman Funeral Home-Birk Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
Harvey James Koopman was born Feb. 21, 1934 in Ivanhoe to his par­ents Frank and Jeanette (Berg) Koopman. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Ivan­hoe High School. Harvey served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
On Sept. 1, 1957 Harvey was united in marriage to Muriel Sandro at Beth­lehem Lutheran Church near Astoria, South Da­kota. Harvey and Muriel had four children that they raised on their farm. Harvey enjoyed visiting with his coffee crew at the bakery and traveling. Playing cards with friends was also something he en­joyed, especially Pinochle. He was a member of Beth­any-Elim Lutheran Church and a lifelong member of Rueben-Hansen American Legion, Post 195 of Hen­dricks.
He is survived by his be­loved wife of 62 years, Mu­riel Koopman; sons James Koopman, Mark (Missy) Koopman and Kevin Koop­man, and daughter Nor­een Zafft. Harvey loved his three grandchildren— Jesse (Jessica) Zafft, Anna Zafft and Matthew Koop­man; and two great-grand­children—Abbie Grace and Tucker Zafft. He is also survived by his brother Joel (Jan) Koopman and sister Wanice (Dick) Hoff, along with numerous niec­es, nephews and cousins.
Harvey is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Gary Koopman, Ruby Campbell, John Dale Koopman and Robert Koopman.
