Wide receiver faces the uncertainty of playing in the NFL

By Jay Nelson

Emotions filled the locker room after the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, Aug. 24. Ninety Minnesota Vikings participated in this preseason game, but within a week’s time, the roster needed to be reduced to only 53 players. Thirty-seven men would be walking out of the Minnesota locker room for the last time. Many players sat by their lockers reflecting on what their future may hold. The fate of their Minnesota Vikings membership would soon be decided.

A group with a different type of membership was assembling across the hall from the Vikings locker room. They were members of Gary and Karen Zylstra’s family. Vonn, son of this prominent Hendricks couple, waited for his son Brandon who plays wide receiver for the Vikings. Vonn was joined by his wife Marcia, his brother Jonathan, and Alberto Aguilar. Brandon soon emerged from the locker room and joined his family.
