The A.C. Hansen Post 185 – Tyler American Legion held their annual Veterans Day Dinner on Sunday evening, Nov. 11 with a capacity crowd at the Legion Hall in Tyler. Post Commander Larry Hansen welcomed all and Pastor Wayde Kenneke led the table prayer before everyone enjoyed the delicious turkey dinner catered by Irene’s By Julie of Hendricks.
Legionnaire Duane Blake gave the invocation to begin the program and introduced the recent war veterans who were honored guests, U.S. Army Spec. Andrew Gordon and Jamie Norgaard, who had served in the US Air Force from 1994-98.
RTR High School seniors Shane and Kole Vogt, who had been selected as Boys State participants from RTR, spoke of their Boys State experiences. Shane spoke first, describing the mock-government process in which he was elected to congress. Boys State provides a well-rounded experience, with music and sports as well as military and government programs. He participated in the band and played basketball. Speakers at Boys State included politicians, service members and police. Shane said he learned a lot, such as proper flag etiquette and he made some good friends.
