Mass of Christian Burial for Georgie Ann “Hon” Mortier was 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19 at Holy Re­deemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation was Thursday, 4-8 p.m. with a CCW Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation continued 9-10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment followed the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Hon was born in rural Bird Island, the sixth of seven girls born to Carl and Anastasia (Bertamus) Schmoll. She attended country school and gradu­ated from the Catholic School in Bird Island. After graduation, she worked for a time for the City Attor­ney in Marshall. On Sept. 3, 1955 she was united in marriage to Francis Morti­er. The couple farmed near Tyler until moving to Mar­shall in 1968. Hon worked for various employers, including 10 years at the Schwan Food Company. She enjoyed bowling and golf and was an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. After re­tirement, the couple win­tered in southern Texas for many years.
Hon died gracefully with her family by her side on Sunday, Jan. 14 at Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Marshall, following a brief bout with cancer.
She is survived by her children Julie Nesson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Karen (and Bill “Buck”) Bender of Poynette, Wis­consin, Mike (and Mary) Mortier of Marshall, John (and Loretta) Mortier of Prior Lake, and Dale (and Peggy) Mortier of Cham­plin; grandchildren Adam Nesson, Lexi (and Tim) Kahnk, Carly (and Tim) Fountain, Caitlin (and Mat­thew) Fahy, Cory (and Kar­en) Bender, Daniel (and Kathleen) Mortier, David Mortier, Emily Mortier (and fiancé Eli Welu), Angie Sussner (fiancé Ian Blum­er), Stephanie (and Jason) Andrews, Tucker Mortier and Tanner Mortier; great-grandchildren Brittany and Blake Andrews and Nora and Rayner Kahnk; sisters Rosie Lanoue, Car­lene Maxwell, and Char­lotte (and Jack) Friedrichs; brothers-in-law Clayton Ellingson and Syl Eisch­ens; nieces, nephews, rela­tives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Francis “Mort” Mortier, stillborn brother George, sisters Katherine Paradis, Sally Eischens and Ole Elling­son, and son-in-law Steve Nesson.
In lieu of flowers, me­morials preferred to Prai­rie Home Hospice of Mar­shall. Arrangements with Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Directors, Marshall.
