Martin “Marty” Harold Gallanter, age 73, died Feb. 24 as a result of congestive heart failure at Avera McK­ennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Martin was born Dec. 2, 1944 in Newark, New Jer­sey to Bernard Gallanter and Penny Whitefield. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Empire State University in Albany, New York.
Marty and his second wife Lorna moved to Ty­ler in 1993. Prior to the move he worked as De­velopment Director for The Great Hudson River Revival, United Jewish Ap­peal, and Legal Aid Society in the New York City area.
In 2002 Marty and his wife moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He worked as Development Director for DSU in Madison, South Dakota, Washington Pa­vilion, and Volunteers of America.
Marty worshipped the New York Yankees. He loved to write and read. He enjoyed all forms of music, and was passionate about politics. He was a member of MENSA. Marty was an active member of MT. Zion Congregation for over 20 years, serving as temple president as well as serv­ing on the board.
Marty is survived by his daughter Tisha; mother Penny; sister Debra and her daughter Rebeccah; former wives Judy and Lor­na; and aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Ber­nard and his brother Paul.
A private service was held for family immedi­ately after his death.
