Dolan Rueben Johnson was born Dec. 1, 1935 to Carl Martin and Viola Jane (Cunningham) Johnson in Coon Creek Township, Minnesota. Dolan attended school in Russell and graduated in 1953. Four years after graduation, he married Eyvonne Johannsen on July 7, 1957 at Peace Evangelical Church in Elkton, South Dakota. The young couple continued to live in the Russell and Florence areas. Throughout their years of marriage, they were blessed with five children—Scott, Becky, Darren, Joel and Kyle. Dolan spent his life working as a farmer and also ran his own trenching business. Dolan beat a cancer diagnosis in 2002, and lived for 16 years, cancer free. Due to failing health, Dolan was brought to Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He died there on Sunday, Oct. 28 at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 27 days.
Dolan was a member of Grace First Parish in Russell and served as a member of the church council. In the community, Dolan was a member of the Russell Roundup Riders, Slicks and Chicks, and a member of the Square Dancing Club.
