Jim worked hard as a farmer, truck driver, construction and back to farming. Some of his employers were Appleton Silo Co., Robert L. Carr Construction and Buller Farms. Upon retiring, Jim took on the duty of patrolling the City of Arco and Lake Stay Park, day and night. He is missed in this role.
Jim was very proud and dedicated father, a loving grandfather, son, brother, favorite uncle and good friend. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, (BS-ing), telling jokes, teasing and visiting with everyone. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone who asked, and during retirement, drive slow enough to enjoy everything around him. Jim’s motto could be, “if you’re driving 10 mph, you’re driving too fast.” Jim had a love of Country music and often sang his favorite songs to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children— Kirsty (Craig) Deslauriers, James Jr. (Becky Leibfried) Gladis, Shirly (Hammerlink) Gladis, Mitch (Janet Gramstad) Gladis, Steve (Rocia Mendez) Gladis, Mary (Patrick) O’Reilly, Tom (Denise Halling) Gladis and Scott (Jenn Short) Gladis; 26 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings— Lorraine Reiter, Irene (Willard) Goodmundson, Ione Voss, Roseann (David) Halfmann and Joyce (Dwaine) Evans; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his son Lee Gladis in 1997; grandchildren Jennifer Gladis and Cory Gladis; his parents, brothers, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law and nephews.
